18 year old CRMS Telemark Team Athlete Jake Sakson gave Nick a run for his money in Alaska by winning the prelims and landing a 3rd place finish. Jake and Nick are kindred spirits in their approach to big mountain skiing - both adopting an intellectual approach to terrain and competition and both utilizing Yoga and visualization as critical pieces of their approach. This is the same approach and philosophy that provided the fuel behind the Portillo Big Mountain Telemark camp. We are even more fired up to get down there!

There are still spaces available, but things are filling up fast!

The Camp

Join us in Chile for a week of intensive big-mountain telemark instruction!

The camp is open to any age expert Telemarker (able to ski all blacks). Whether you aspire to compete in big mountain events, want to take your Telemark skiing to the next level, or simply want to develop your technique in a stunning setting, we will help you hone in your Telemark skills so that you may be free and confident in any terrain.

Through on-piste and backcountry exploration we will focus on technique, awareness, visualization, safety, discipline, determination, and having an overall great time ripping some stunning lines. While perfecting the Telemark turn, you will also learn about big mountain and backcountry travel, including precaution, line choice, route finding, equipment use, snow stability, and overall awareness while enjoying the majestic mountains.

Coaches:

Nick DeVore
Nick DeVore is one of the most progressive Telemark skiers on the planet. He continues to shatter Telemark stereotypes with extraordinary big mountain ascents and descents and an energetic, fluid style of Telemark skiing. He is the 2008 World Telemark Freesking Champion and his other accomplishments include several ski descents of Denali, climbing and skiing 24 of Colorado’s 14eeners with Chris Davenport, appearances in multiple ski movies such as Powder Whores, and staggering competition results against an alpine field in the U.S. Freeskiing Series. He is also a passionate Yogi and certified instructor. For more information, adventures, video, and pictures go to http://nickdevore.com/

Kayo Ogilby
Nick DeVore was inspired to take up free-heel skiing by his coach and mentor, Kayo Ogilby. Over the last 12 years Kayo has helped catalyze the modern big mountain and free-ride Telemark movement as the head coach of the CRMS Telemark Team. The program, which was the first of its kind, has turned out hordes of passionate Telemark skiers, including Lorenzo Worster, Max Mancini, Cody Smith, Austin Corry, Jack Tolan, and Nick DeVore. Kayo's approach has been to foster in his athletes a life-long passion for the sport and to develop a contemporary style of Telemark skiing that is conducive to high speeds, technical terrain, and competition and big mountain situations. In 2008, CRMS Telemark Team athletes took 4 top ten finishes in the US Extreme Telemark Championships in Crested Butte, and a 3rd place finish in the World Telemark Free-skiing Championships in Alyeska Alaska.
